As part of the Group’s strong commitment towards the decarbonization along its whole value chain, Arkema launched the CACTUS* digital tool, which aims to automatize the calculation of the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of the Group’s solutions.
Launched early 2023, this new tool is key to carry out PCF as per a cradle-to-gate approach, taking into account all GHG emissions from the extraction of raw materials to the gate of Arkema’s production sites.
The calculation is based on the International Standard Organization (ISO 14067) requirements, the principles of the World Business Council for Sustainability Development (WBCSD) and follows the Together for Sustainability (TfS) guideline.
As an accelerator in performing PCF of Arkema’s products, the CACTUS tool will allow to exceed, before 2024, the target of 50% of Arkema’s sales covered by either a carbon footprint or a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), versus 41% in 2022 and 27% in 2021.
Therefore, during the Capital Markets Day on 27 September 2023, the Group announced a new target to achieve 90% of its sales covered by an LCA by 2030. This is a new milestone in the sustainability ambition of the Group and by strongly increasing its capacity to calculate PCF, Arkema will help its customers in their ambition to reduce their Scope 3 upstream GHG emissions and in their quest for more sustainable solutions.
